Midfield vs AthleteOne.
An honest comparison. We'll tell you where AthleteOne wins (it's real) and where Midfield wins (we built the platform for the people running club & league sports and the players they serve, not for college-recruiting visibility).
AthleteOne is the right choice if…
- Your club already participates in TGS-affiliated showcase events
- College-recruiting visibility is the parent's primary buying motive
- You're in the ECNL / ECNL RL / NPL competitive track
Midfield is the right choice if…
- You're running a club, a league, a governing body, or a small training group, and the back office is eating your evenings
- You want one connected platform instead of five disconnected apps
- Your members play across multiple teams and you're tired of duplicate accounts
- Refunds, scholarships, and end-of-season records are where your time goes

Where each platform actually delivers, based on public surfaces and documented behavior.
| Capability | Midfield | AthleteOne |
|---|---|---|
| Per-user platform fees | One subscription covers every account. No per-user pile-on. | $3-$25/mo per user; ~$546/yr across four users. |
| One connected platform | Clubs, leagues, coaches, and players share one inbox, one cart, one login. | Email-uniqueness forces everyone onto separate accounts. |
| Refund engine | Registrar review queue with processor-wired approve/decline + treasurer sign-off. | Not documented on public product surface. |
| Scholarship workflow | Anonymized committee review + award fulfillment. | Not documented on public product surface. |
| Forms + electronic signatures | Legally compliant e-sig built into every form. No DocuSign required. | Not documented on public product surface. |
| Board-handoff archive | Sealed audit-ready bundle for end of season. | Not documented on public product surface. |
| College recruiting | Out of charter. Use AthleteOne / FieldLevel / NCSA for college visibility. | College-coach event access, brochure builder, scout-attendance tracking. |
| ECNL plumbing | No league-level contract. Targets clubs directly. | Exclusive ECNL technology partner since July 2016. |
| Published pricing | Every tier on a public page. No NDA required. | Per-user tiers published; club-level pricing opaque. |
| State-association readiness | State→Region→Club hierarchy + RFP-grade reporting baked in. | No state-assoc tier on public product surface. |
| Vendor portability | Standard, open export anytime. No exit fee. No proprietary lock-in. | Standard SaaS export. Not benchmarked. |
The member experience
What members actually say.
Verbatim from the iOS App Store, 2.9 ★ from 17 reviews (April-Jan 2025-26).
Very Poor
“The schedule is the most important feature… the app allows you to copy the link to add the team calendar but doesn't actually show any events.”
Very Unreliable
“It shows notifications but when you go into the app, there's nothing… when I try and get into the communication for one of the team chats, it crashes the app every time.”
These are real reviews, quoted verbatim with original dates. Both target the two surfaces members use most: schedule + chat.
Where AthleteOne wins.
Midfield is not going to pretend otherwise. AthleteOne is owned by Total Global Sports, which has been the exclusive technology partner of the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) since July 2016. If your daughter or son is on the ECNL track and college-coach visibility during showcase events is the point, AthleteOne has spent a decade building exactly that. Midfield hasn't, won't, and shouldn't. It's not our charter.
Midfield is for the rest of club & league sports: the club registrar, the league director, the state-association admin, the coach running tryouts from her phone. The people who want the back office to stop eating their evenings and one connected platform instead of a pile of disconnected apps.
